Support for Senior Homeowners
Welcome to Senior Homeowner Advisors. A trusted place where senior homeowners and their families can receive guidance and gain clarity for all things related to living well at home, transitioning to new spaces, or simply preparing for the future.
Here, you’ll find helpful information and resources — from home safety upgrades and downsizing support to estate planning and long-term care housing options. Whether staying put or planning for a move, we've got your covered.
Senior Homeowner Advisors offers complimentary consultations (for Chicagoland area residents) to help you figure out what makes sense for you regarding what is necessary (or will be necessary) to stay in your home as you age, and when it might be time to move on from your current home. We also provide referrals to vetted home service providers you can trust and who understand the senior market.
This is a place to learn, prepare, and connect.

The Story Begins Here
I’m Ira Dym — a longtime transitions coach, real estate professional, and advocate for older adults. After helping my own parents and others navigate the challenges of homeownership later in life, I saw a need: practical, compassionate, and no-pressure guidance for seniors making important home-related decisions. I founded Senior Homeowner Advisors as a personal project. It's not a business, but a resource for senior life planning. It’s my way of supporting a community often in need of answers. A way of sharing my expertise and helping others navigate the tricky (and often emotional) challenges that come with homeownership later in life.
If you’re a senior homeowner—or love someone who is—you may already know what I mean:
-
The house starts feeling like more work than joy
-
Repairs get pushed off or become overwhelming
-
Safety becomes a concern, or you're not sure how long staying is realistic
-
Conversations about "what’s next" are hard to start
I’ve seen it professionally. I’ve lived it personally. And I realized that many families either don’t know where to begin or get stuck somewhere along the way.
That’s where Senior Homeowner Advisors comes in. A community resource, developed to offer:
✔️ Articles and resources for managing homeownership as you age.
✔️ Complimentary guidance conversations to talk through options - from how best to age in place to deciding when it might be time to downsize or move to assisted living.
✔️ Trusted referrals to vetted professionals who can help with everything from home safety upgrades and decluttering support to estate planning and long-term care options.
My goal is simple: To help you make smart, informed decisions about your living situation as you age, so you can live comfortably with less stress - at any age.
Senior Homeowner Advisors has nothing to sell you. My advice, the resources on this site, and the referrals I offer are totally free. With that said, I am a licensed realtor, so if sometime down the line you decide it’s time to sell your home, I hope you'll think of me. Or if you learn of a friend or family member who is looking to buy or sell a home, I’d be honored to receive your referral.
Until then, take a look around. Read, learn, and reach out to me with your questions. This site is a labor of love. I hope you find value in the guidance and resources within.

“I founded Senior Homeowner Advisors after seeing the lack of support many seniors face when managing homeownership as they age. Senior Homeowner Advisors is not a business. It's my way of sharing information and providing guidance for seniors and their families so they can be more prepared for the challenges of homeownership later in life.”
